Bucknell Takes League Win Over Women’s Lacrosse

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell controlled a seven-goal lead in the first half during an eventual 19-9 victory over the Army West Point women's lacrosse team in a Patriot League contest on Saturday afternoon at Graham Field.
Army falls to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the league, while Bucknell improves to 7-3 and 1-1.
Freshman Manuela Cortes scored the first hat trick of her career and sophomore Amy Johnston tallied a pair of goals and four draw controls.
Bucknell struck first, when Maddy Molinari scored 3:07 into the game, before the Bison netted the game's next eight goals during a span of 18:51 to build the lead to 9-0 with 18:27 left in the first half.
Cortes put the Black Knights on the board with a goal at the 7:16 mark of the opening half and Johnston added two tallies in the remaining 3:45 of the period. Army outscored Bucknell, 3-1, during the final 7:16 of the first frame, but the hosts entered the halftime break with a 10-3 advantage.
Army registered two of the first three goals to start the second half, with sophomore Rachel Hornick and junior Erin Jollota scoring 2:14 and 4:44 into the period, respectively, to bring the score to 11-5.
Gretchen Richter answered for Bucknell, scoring three of her four goals on the afternoon during a stretch of 3:38 before Audrey Walsh added a fourth straight marker for the Bison to put the hosts in front by 10, 15-5, with 17:56 remaining.
Cortes found the back of the net at the 12:35 and 11:58 marks of the second half to cap a 3-0 Army run that trimmed the deficit to seven goals, but Bucknell tallied four of the game's final five goals to finish out the win.
Army closes out its road swing with a game at Holy Cross on Wednesday, March 30 at 5:35 p.m.
