Army Sweeps PL Twin Bill on Saturday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team picked up a pair of Patriot League wins in its series-opening doubleheader over Colgate 5-3 and 8-7 on Saturday from the Softball Complex.
The Black Knights improved to 19-9 and 2-0 in the league, while the Raiders dropped to 7-15 and 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME ONE
- Army opened the game by putting up a four spot in the first inning, highlighted by three consecutive RBI singles by Maddie Kim, Alee Rashenskas and Kennedy Harrison.
- The Raiders answered in the second inning to cut the Army lead to 4-1.
- After three scoreless innings, the Black Knights padded their lead when Emily Ballesteros singled in Tyler McKinney.
- Colgate rallied late with two more runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough as Army took game one, 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME TWO
- Colgate jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after an RBI groundout to right field in the first inning.
- Army responded in the bottom of the frame with a sac fly to center from Emily Ballesteros that scored Ashley Yoo to tie the game.
- The Raiders retook the lead in the lead in the third inning when they scored four runs on five hits.
- The Black Knights started to chip away at the lead in the fourth when Kennedy Harrison scored on a fielder's choice that put Emily Gray on first.
- The sixth inning was full of scoring from both sides as six runs crossed the plate between the two teams.
- Colgate started by stretching its lead to four runs after a sacrifice fly and a single with two outs.
- Not to be outdone, the Black Knights rallied to tie the game at seven as freshmen Lacey Swafford and Ballesteros each recorded two RBI hits to tie the game. Swafford contributed a single two batters before Ballesteros hit her seventh double of the year.
- After shutting down the Raiders in the top of the seventh, Ashley Yoo hit a sac fly to left with the bases loaded and one out to plate Alee Rashenskas for the walk-off win.
