Army Clashes with Marist in Midweek Doubleheader

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point softball team begins its season-ending seven-game road trip with a doubleheader at Hudson Valley rival Marist on Thursday.
First pitch for the opener is slated for 2 p.m., with game two starting approximately 30 minutes after the final out of game one.

ARMY (31-16, 10-5 Patriot League)
• Army enters the doubleheader with a 28-19-1 advantage in the all-time series with Marist.
• The Black Knights are currently on a four-game winning streak after sweeping Bucknell over the weekend.
• This will be Army's first trip to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., since 2013 when it split a twin bill with the Red Foxes. The Black Knights won game one, 6-4, before dropping a 9-1 decision in 5 innings.
• Caroline Smith was recently named the Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after guiding the Black Knights to a series sweep over Bucknell last weekend.
• Smith posted a 2-1 record on the week with a 0.70 earned run average, while allowing just seven hits in 20 innings of work.
• The trio of rookies Lacey Swafford, Katie Ontiveros and Emily Ballesteros has been a dynamic offensive weapon for the Black Knights combining for 109 hits, 65 runs batted in, 49 runs, 20 doubles, six triples and five home runs while hitting at a .305 clip.

• Marist has won five of its last six games, with the only setback coming in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against Manhattan, 8-6.
• Senior Janna Korak was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Week after hitting .682 (15-for-22) with an OPS of 2.140 in six games last week.
• Korak leads the Red Foxes in batting average (.371), home runs (11), RBI (41), runs (31), hits (52), doubles (15), total bases (100), walks (21), on-base percentage (.448) and slugging percentage (.714).
• In the circle, Jayne Oberdorf and Jessica Van Alphen sport team-low ERAs of 2.03 and 2.09, respectively.
• Van Alphen paces the Red Foxes with nine wins, seven complete games, three shutouts and ranks second with 60 strikeouts.
