Men's Basketball Drops Road Contest to Stony Brook

West Point, NY – Army Men's Basketball (5-7) took on Stony Brook (4-8) in its first game in over a week. Freshman Coleton Benson came out in the December cold on fire as he connected on four three-pointers in the first five minutes of the first half. Benson's sharp shooting led Army to get out to a 23-12 lead by the 11:20 mark in in the half.
TJ Small also connected on a triple as Army connected on five three balls in the first 10 minutes of play. Benson scored 14 of Army's first 27 points. After the hot start, Army would go scoreless for five minutes as Stony Brook clawed back into the game. At the break, Army maintained a five-point lead, 33-28 after seeing its biggest lead grown to 11.
In the second half, the Seawolves would tie the game up at 43-43, the first time Army didn't have the lead since the game was tied at 2-2. Benson would answer the tied game with his fifth triple of the afternoon, as Army regained the lead, 46-43.
Later on, Jalen Rucker would bank in a three-pointer to get the Black Knights back up five, 50-45. The Seawolves would answer back and tie the ballgame at 50-50 with under six minutes to go behind back-to-back buckets by Frankie Policelli. Policelli would give Stony Brook its first lead of the game, 52-50 connecting on a turnaround jumper with 4:49 to play.
Army facing its first deficit in the game, missed back-to-back one-and-one's foul shot attempts, by Ethan Roberts and Charlie Peterson. Chris Mann would then convert on a layup to pull Army within four, 56-52 ending another five-minute scoring drought.
Jalen Rucker connected on jumper to cut to 58-54 with 2:36 to go.
Freshman Ethan Roberts made a three, to cut the Stony Brook lead to 62-57 with 1:11 to go but was little to late for the Black Knights as they dropped its second straight road contest, 66-59.
Frankie Policelli lead the way in scoring and rebounding for the Seawolves with 22 points and 19 rebounds.
Tyler Stephenson-Moore (10) and Keenan Fitzmorris (14) also were in double figures for Stony Brook.
Army shot just 4-12 from the foul line. Stony Brook used a 15-4 run in the second half to outmatch the Black Knights.
