February 25, 2024 | Softball
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Army West Point softball team (1-14) fell on Sunday morning to the Georgia State Panthers (5-11), 7-3, in the final game of the I-75 Tournament hosted in the Atlanta, Ga. area.
Army Freshman Emma Murchison hit her first career home run, a solo shot in the second inning and Parker Llantero would single to left center, scoring Mia Bonsignore to put the Black Knights out front 2-0.
Georgia State would attack for three in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to prove to be too much offense for the Army bats to surmount.
Army brought it within a two-run game in the fifth, 5-3 when senior Kayla Edwards hit an RBI triple down the right-field line that scored Llantero.
Llantero went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Edwards extended her hit streak to five games (every tournament game), going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double, triple and an RBI. Ashton White was also 2-for-4 in the game.
Olivia Farris (0-5), took the loss working 3.1 innings, giving up six hits, five runs, three earned and striking out two.
Up Next: Army will be back in action next weekend in the Middle Tennessee State Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn, playing MTSU, North Alabama, Detroit Mercy and Bradley University.
