Baseball Takes Navy Series Opener Behind Lehman’s Masterpiece
April 26, 2024 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Justin Lehman delivered 129 pitches, tossing a complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts as Army West Point Baseball took Game 1 of the Baseball Star Series over Navy, 1-0.
The junior from Fort Mill, S.C. allowed just three hits and induced a trio of double plays in the first three innings. He went 21 batters without allowing a hit in the first through eighth innings, and had five innings where he sat the Midshipmen down in order.
Friday's game was the third complete game of the year for a Black Knight pitcher, but the first nine-inning complete game.
Lehman was victorious in a highly intense pitcher's duel, with Navy's Tyler Grenn also compiling the complete game.
One run was all that was necessary for Army to secure the weekend's opening game. In the fifth inning, William Parker led off with a walk, Sam Ruta moved Parker to third with a single and Coleson Titus had the contest's sole RBI on a squeeze play.
Navy would bring the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth, but Lehman forced a flyout to left fielder Addison Ainsworth to secure the victory.
Army improved to 24-17 and have won nine of its past 11.
