Tracz Tabbs TJ Ward for Baseball Staff

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Baseball head coach Chris Tracz has announced TJ Ward as the newest assistant coach on his staff.

Ward comes from Saint Peter's, where he served as the head coach in 2026.

"I'm excited to welcome Ward to our coaching staff at Army West Point," said Tracz. "I know firsthand the type of competitor, leader and person he is. Ward brings great energy, love of baseball and a genuine passion for developing our cadet-athletes. He understands the mission and standards at Army West Point, and I'm confident he will make an immediate impact with our players both on and off the field."

At Saint Peter's, Ward led a Peacocks program in 2026 which played the second-most games in school history. He also led the offense, developing infielder Alex Manent to a 10-home run season, which was the most in school history in a single season.

The Peacocks' Steve Polizzi made the MAAC All-Rookie team under Ward, while Ward also helped get nine athletes on the MAAC All-Academic team and oversaw a 3.57 team GPA, the highest in program history.

Before Saint Peter's, Ward served as recruiting coordinator and hitting coach at Hartford from 2022-25. His two years as hitting coach saw the program notch its two highest on-base percentages in program history, at clips of .400 and .405 respectively, and in 2022, the Hawks set a program record for single-season home runs.

From 2019-21, Ward held the role of assistant coach at Rampo College in Mahwah, N.J., helping lead the program the NJAC Championship game in 2019. He also coached Cincinnati Reds organizational signee Vin Timpanelli at Rampo, while guiding six hitters to all-conference honors.

Ward jumped into coaching following a playing career which featured a two-year stint with the New Jersey Jackals, where he played second and third base for the Frontier League club. He also spent two seasons with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers in the United Shore Professional Baseball League from 2018-19, where he won a USPBL title in 2018 and earned an all-star spot the following year.

A native of Jersey City, N.J., Ward played four seasons at Hartford from 2015-18. As a senior in 2018, he led the Hawks to an America East regular season and tournament title, and a berth to the 2018 DeLand Regional at Stetson University. A two-year captain, Ward was named to the America East All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team in 2016 and 2018. He graduated from Hartford with a degree in Mathematics and Secondary Education in 2018.
