Baseball Drops Game to Holy Cross to Conclude 2026 Season
May 10, 2026 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point baseball refused to go away quietly, but would drop a 6-2 decision to the Holy Cross Crusaders in game two of the Patriot League Semifinals to end its postseason run as well as its 2026 season.Â
Â
The Black Knights finish the campaign 28-20 overall. Army won the Patriot League Regular Season Co-Championship, defeated Navy in the star series, recorded two series wins over Navy and went 5-2 overall against academy rivals in 2026, with a win over Air Force on February 21 to reclaim the silver star. Army also defeated SEC foe South Carolina on February 20.
Â
After a 5-3 defeat on Saturday night, Army looked to turn the page to Sunday. A rain delay of one hour and 50 minutes delayed those plans however, and when action did commence at 3:55 p.m. at Doubleday Field, the Crusaders drew first blood with a two-out double in the top of the first inning.Â
Â
Army would keep the damage limited to just that run into the fifth, with starting pitcher Kevin Reavey recording a perfect second and third inning while collecting three strikeouts on the day. A rundown on the third base line in the top of the fourth kept the game within one run for the Black Knights, but three Holy Cross runs in the fifth gave the visitors a 4-0 advantage.
Â
Army however would get back into the game on one swing in the sixth, when Josiah Overbeek launched his program record-tying 17th home run this year, a two-run blast which made it 4-2.
Â
Trey Ates also kept Holy Cross at bay with scoreless sixth and seventh innings in relief and four strikeouts.
Â
The Crusaders would scratch across a run in the eighth and another in the ninth to pad their lead.
Â
Mark Abell finished the game on the mound for Army with 1.2 innings, with two strikeouts.
Â
