Men’s Basketball Gains First Win of 2025-26 Season Against Maritime

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point men's basketball (1-0) gained its first win of the 2025-26 season on Monday, defeating the Maritime College Privateers, 73-49.
With the win, the Black Knights earn their seventh straight win over the Privateers, moving to a 7-0 advantage in the head-to-head series.
Three Black Knights finished the game in double-digits. Sophomore guard Kevin McCarthy finished with a game-high 18 points, freshman guard Jackson Furman added 17 points off the bench and sophomore forward Jacen Holloway finished with 13 points.
Nine Black Knights also contributed points to Army's 73 points. Alongside Furman, three other Black Knights made their collegiate debuts, including Dillon Watt, Dylan Benner and Jahaan Green.
How It Happened
The Black Knights started the scoring first with a three-pointer made by Kevin McCarthy from a dish from Jorn Everson. Then Tate Laczkowski added his first bucket of the season to help give Army a 5-2 lead early.
The Privateers went on a quick 8-0 run to take the lead, then Army went on a 7-2 burst to tie the game at 12-12.
The run featured two made three-pointers, one from freshman guard Jackson Furman and the other from senior Jackson Mayo.
For the next seven minutes, the two teams exchanged buckets, keeping the game tied at 23-23.
Jackson Forman led all scorers in the span with five points, with Dayon Polk, Jorn Everson and Jacen Holloway each adding two points.
Then, Jacen Holloway went on his one personal 5-0 run, featuring three made free throws and one layup to give Army a 28-23 lead.
After the Privateers narrowed the lead, the Black Knights scored eight points in under two minutes to take a nine-point lead heading into halftime.
Kevin McCarthy started the run with a three-pointer, then Jackson Furman added another three-pointer to finish the first half with 11 points. Jorn Everson closed out the first half with a layup to make it 36-27 game.
To begin the second half, Maritime began to close the gap, but the Army went on a 9-0 run in under two minutes to take a 47-31 lead with 15:44 left in the second half.
Furman added another six points in the run, while McCarthy also added another three-point bucket.
The Black Knights and Privateers exchanged buckets for the next four minutes, then Army went on an 11-0 run over four minutes to take a 60-42 lead with 7:03 left on the clock.
Kevin McCarthy had five points in the run, hitting a three-pointer and a fadeaway. Dayon Polk, Jorn Everson and Tate Laczkowski each added another two points.
Maritime responded with a quick 6-0 burst to make it a 60-45 game with 4:56 left on the clock. Army then took over in the last five minutes, outscoring the Privateers 13-4 to close in on the 73-49 win.
Jacen Holloway started the run with a personal six-point burst himself, starting with a dunk and then adding back-to-back driving layups.
Kevin McCarthy added his final points of the night off a layup, then Jackson Mayo added the final three-pointer of the night for the Black Knights. Then, to wrap up the scoring, Jahaan Green scored his first career points with a thunderous dunk to put an exclamation point on Army's first win of the season.
Black Knight Bullet Points
- The team shot 39.2 percent from the field, making 29 of 74 total shots. Army also hit 11 of 41 three-pointers to finish shooting 26.8 percent from beyond the arc.
- The team dished out 17 assists and also totaled 12 steals and three blocks on the defensive end.
- The Black Knights dominated points in the paint with 34 and scored 28 points off turnovers.
- Kevin McCarthy led the team with a career-high 18 points, making seven of 18 field goals, including three three-pointers, and added three steals.
- Jackson Furman was a strong contributor off the bench with 17 points on 6-11 shooting, including five three-pointers. The 17 points were the most points a freshman has scored in their Army debut in 11 seasons. Tanner Omlid was the last Black Knight with numbers similar to Furman, scoring 18 points in his collegiate debut against Air Force on Nov. 8, 2013.
- Jacen Holloway scored a career-best 13 points, shooting 5-11 from the field, grabbed three rebounds, and tallied four assists and two steals.
- Jorn Everson posted nine points and six rebounds while recording three assists and one block in 25 minutes.
- Tate Laczkowski finished with a team-high nine rebounds, plus added four points, three assists and one block.
- Jackson Mayo added six points by going 2-3 from three-point range and also grabbed one rebound.
- Dayon Polk contributed all around for the Black Knights, finishing with two points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in his 22 minutes on the court.
Up Next
The Black Knights hit the road for the first time in the 2025-26 season on Saturday, heading north to St. Paul, Minnesota, to take on the St. Thomas Tommies inside Lee and Penny Anderson.
The game on Nov. 8 will mark the first time that Army will take on the Tommies in program history. The matchups will mark the first time any two basketball programs will play in the Lee & Penny Anderson Arena, named after the lead donors for the facility.
Lee Anderson, a Minnesota native and a graduate of the USMA Class of 1961, was an outstanding cadet and men's basketball player. He played an integral role in the paint for Army throughout his career and helped lead the program to its first three appearances in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).
The two teams face off on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. ET, with the game also streaming live on the Summit League Network.
