Kitlinski, Schreck & White Named April Scholar-Athletes of the Month by Center for Enhanced Performance
April 30, 2025 | Baseball, General, Softball, Rabble Rousers
WEST POINT, NY -Â Â The Army West Point Athletics Association's Academic Support team has selected its scholar-athletes for the month of April, recognizing rabble rousers senior Amelia Kitlinski, baseball junior Thomas Schreck and softball junior Ashton White.
Amelia Kitlinski '25 (rabble rousers)
Cadet Amelia Kitlinski, a senior and member of the Rabble Rouser's Dance Team since its inception in 2022, exemplifies what it means to be positive, do your best, and be a good teammate. Kitlinski is a life science major who came to West Point out of Alexandria, Virginia. Head Coach Izzy da Rosa attests that Cadet Kitlinski has a great attitude, is a good mentor, and works hard. As a result of these attributes, Cadet Kitlinski has helped to build a community within the team focused on positivity and the pursuit of excellence, which have laid the foundation for the group's transformation into a nationally competitive Pom Team that earned its first "Gold" bid to NDA College Nationals at the start of the 2024-2025 season.
Â
Beyond the sidelines, one can observe the evidence of Cadet Kitlinski's positive energy, focus, and drive in her pursuit of excellence in the classroom and her support to others as they seek to be their best. A Life Science major, Cadet Kitlinski has not only earned a 3.66 cumulative GPA but also been selected to attend medical school through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. Even as she worked towards achieving this goal, Cadet Kitlinski helped other cadets succeed by serving as a Writing Program Fellow with the Mounger Writing Center and as peer tutor.
Â
As both a scholar and an athlete, Cadet Amelia Kitlinski has set a shining example for others to follow and truly deserves recognition as the scholar-athlete for the month of April.
Thomas Schreck '26 (baseball)
Cadet Thomas Schreck, a junior and the starting shortstop on the Army West Point Baseball Team, has served as an anchor of the team's infield since 2024, after he assumed the role from CDT Kevin Debrule, a 2023 Second Team All-American and the Patriot League Player of the Year. During his two years at the position, Thomas has maintained a fielding percentage over 0.96 on 300+ chances, solidifying his reputation as an agile, sure-handed fielder with an accurate arm and good decision-making skills. In addition to his fielding prowess, Thomas has performed well at the plate this season, hitting for a 0.279 average (17th in the Patriot League) and accumulating an on-base percentage of 0.407 (11th in the Patriot League). With 8 doubles, he currently ranks 3rd in the Patriot League, and this production was formally recognized with his selection as the Patriot League's Player of the Week on March 3, 2025, when he slashed four doubles against Air Force over a three-game span.Â
Â
In addition to Thomas' achievements on the diamond, he has also excelled as a student. With a cumulative GPA of 3.58, his performance across the curriculum is consistently excellent, earning him Dean's List honors during each of his five semesters at USMA. Moreover, Thomas currently holds a 4.07 GPA within his Operations Research major, where his lowest grade across eight challenging math classes is an A-. While this level of achievement is laudable for any cadet, it seems all the more remarkable considering the baseball team's grueling 50+ game schedule.
Â
Simply put, Thomas leads by example and takes responsibility for his actions - both on the field and in the classroom - helping to maintain a culture of organizational excellence and personal accountability within the Army Baseball Family and the Corps of Cadets. He is a leader among leaders of character, and USMA and the Army are better for his efforts.
Ashton White '26 (softball)
Cadet Ashton White is a true competitor and leader committed to excellence on and off the playing field. The junior team co-captain lives every day competing to be the best she can be and pushing those around her to do the same. She is well respected in the Corps of Cadets, in the classroom, and in the Army Softball program and has proven to her coaches and teammates that she has what it takes to be a leader and warrior.
Ashton's athletic performance has garnered tremendous respect within the Patriot League. In the 2024 season, she was named to the All-Patriot League First Team and was recognized on the All-Tournament team for the conference championship. Ashton also was named the 2024 Army Softball Offensive Player of the Year and received NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) All-Region honors. This past February, Ashton was named to the 2025 Patriot League Preseason All-League Team and named the 2025 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year. These accolades are well-earned as Ashton is consistently one of the top offensive players on the team and in the Patriot League. She holds a career batting average of 0.335 and a slugging percentage of 0.505. In the 2024 season, she led the team batting with 60 hits, 5 homeruns, and 40 runs-batted in (RBIs). This season, Ashton leads the team with a 0.378 batting average, 11 doubles, and 31 RBIs with two series left in league play. In conference games alone, Ashton leads with an astounding 0.500 batting average. Ashton's hard-hitting offense places her fifth in the Patriot League for her batting average, third in the league for RBIs, second in hits, and the league leader in at-bats. And Ashton makes every at-bat count—she leads the team with an On-Base Plus Slugging (OPS) Percentage of 0.946. Ashton is a fierce competitor at the plate, but she's also a force defensively. She leads the team with 80 assists and has the most starts of any player with 47 (every game).
Ashton's path to success hasn't been easy. An injury early in her career threatened to sideline her during her first season. Given her self-discipline and competitive spirit, Ashton meticulously followed her recovery plan, which meant she was back on the field in time for conference play. She proved to the team leadership and her peers that taking care of herself physically and mentally is a critical part of what it means to be a leader. Moreover, she demonstrated incredible determination and resilience throughout the process; Ashton used her recovery as an opportunity to return to play stronger and more focused than before—and her stats prove it. Her commitment to the team, her tenacity and grit, and her resolve to be her best everyday make her a formidable competitor and leader of character. Because of her leadership on and off the field, Ashton was voted team co-captain by her teammates. As Head Coach Jen Consaul observes, Ashton "was voted in because of her determination, work ethic, passion for the game, and genuine care for [the players] as individuals." She lives honorably, leads honorably, and aims for excellence in everything she does. It's because of her poise and consistency "in good situations and bad," Consaul explains, that "her teammates look to see what she's doing and how she handles situations, which has been very mature and level-headed."
Softball isn't the only area where Ashton finds success at USMA. She currently serves as a Regimental ACT Operations Cadet Noncommissioned Officer (NCO), a demanding nominative position that develops and supports cadet-led programs to actively address harmful behavior, create healthy climates, and teach holistic health within her regiment. Balancing her regimental responsibilities in addition to her commitments to academic coursework and to Army Softball requires a significant amount of maturity, mental agility, and preparation. Sergeant First Class (SFC) Samantha Essig, Ashton's Tactical NCO, highlights her strength as a peer leader: "Off the field, Ashton embodies the core values of the academy, consistently serving as a positive role model and mentor to her peers on the team and in her cadet company." SFC Essig goes on to observe, "She leads by example in all areas, balancing academic, athletic, and leadership responsibilities with grace and integrity. Her dedication to both her team and her personal growth speaks volumes about her character and her readiness to lead in every aspect of life."
Her professors would agree. Ashton approaches her coursework with the same determination and commitment to excellence that she brings to the softball field and to her leadership responsibilities. Dr. Maria Ebling observes that Ashton's early success as a Cyber Operations major has a lot to do with softball and how she manages her time to meet with professors outside of class and begin work on major projects well in advance. Ashton chose to major in Cyber Operations knowing it would be a challenge intellectually, but she has risen to meet that challenge. Dr. Ebling credits Ashton's academic performance to her "outstanding attitude" and work ethic. LTC Andrew Reed, her Cyber Security Engineering professor, characterizes Ashton as "consistent and dependable," words that epitomize who Ashton is as a cadet, scholar, athlete, and leader. Her desire to excel in anything she puts her mind to and to back it up with the work she puts in speaks volumes about her commitment to excellence in all pillars of cadet life.
Cadet Ashton White is an exemplary leader both on and off the softball field. She consistently leads by example, motivating and supporting her teammates with vocal encouragement and through her tireless work ethic. Her commitment to excellence is evident in her performance as a cadet, scholar, and athlete and in her ability to inspire others, including her competitors, to elevate their game. She has earned the genuine respect of and trust of her peers, coaches, professors, and military leaders alike and proven herself as a role model and tremendous leader of character.
