Baseball Hosts Marist Wednesday in Hudson Valley Battle

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Baseball will host Marist at Doubleday Field Wednesday, with first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday's game begins an eight-game homestand at West Point.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Notes and Storylines

» A season ago, the Black Knights turned six double plays in a 6-1 win over the Red Foxes at Doubleday Field April 23.

Army head coach Chris Tracz faces his former club and alma mater, after leading the program as head coach from 2010-2022. Marist head coach Lance Ratchford served as an assistant under Tracz at Marist from 2016-18, with the program winning the 2017 MAAC Championship and a berth to the NCAA Gainesville Regional.

» Army's last 12 games in Patriot League play have each been part of doubleheaders. The Black Knights are 7-5 across this stretch.

» Three Black Knights have tossed a combined four complete games on the mound this year, each in seven-inning games.

Those complete games include Justin Lehman at Navy (March 15), Bryce Brownlee at Lehigh (March 23) Andrew Berg vs. Navy (March 28) and Berg once more at Holy Cross (April 4).

» Joe Valchar pitched a career-high eight scoreless innings in Army's weekend finale at Holy Cross April 6, striking out a career-high seven batters and allowing just eight total baserunners in the 6-0 win.

» 2024 senior Sam Ruta was named to the Northwest Arkansas Naturals opening day roster, in the Double-A Texas League. His MiLB debut at Double-A represents the highest pro debut by an Army Baseball alum in program history. He went 2-for-4 in his first start April 6 at Tulsa, with two doubles, including a two-RBI double for his first professional hit.

Army faces Lehigh at home for a three-game series this weekend. A doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. is scheduled for Saturday before a 1:00 p.m. series finale Sunday.
