Baseball Upended in Both Games at Clemson
February 14, 2026 | Baseball
CLEMSON, S.C. – Army West Point baseball concluded its season-opening three-game series at the Clemson Tigers on Saturday with a doubleheader, dropping both games to fall to 0-3 on the 2026 season.
Â
After being dispatched in the season-opener Friday by just one run, the Black Knights were unable to turn that close loss into a breakthrough Saturday, falling 10-0 in Game 1 of the twin bill and 7-0 in the second game.Â
Â
The teams observed Heroes Weekend across all three games at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, with both Army and Clemson players participating in mid-inning recognitions dedicated to veterans and service members, past and present. Most notably, both teams greeted and thanked veterans in attendance in the middle of the fourth inning of each matchup.
Â
Army was seeking its first power conference game win since 2022, and while it couldn't notch that against Clemson, the squad will have another chance against South Carolina in six days.
Â
Game 1
Â
Clemson scored early and often in Saturday's daycap, with a run in the first inning and two runs each in the second, third and fourth.Â
Â
Robbie Penswick got his second career start on the mound Saturday, with the righty collecting three innings. He would be on the hook for the decision.
Â
Mark Abell came out of the bullpen for his first appearance of 2026, and while he surrendered a pair of earned runs in the fourth, the junior sat the Tigers down in order in the fifth.Â
Â
Army threatened to score in the sixth, with runners on second and third. However, a David Dubrule line drive was snagged by the Tiger shortstop to end the frame.
Â
Clemson added two runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 9-0. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Anthony Ramirez made his career debut in the sixth, and recording all three outs in the inning as well as his first two career strikeouts.
Â
Army extended the game in the bottom of the seventh with a 6-4 double play, before catcher Max McGlone threw out a Clemson baserunner attempting to steal second for the third out of the inning.Â
Â
A Clemson solo home run on second pitch of the bottom of the eighth made it 10-0 and ended the contest.Â
Â
Game 2
Â
The Black Knights looked to turn the page following an early afternoon setback, and stayed within arms' length of Clemson for a majority of the nightcap.
Â
Starting pitcher Kevin Reavey delivered five innings and struck out two, allowing just one earned run but taking the loss. Trey Ates came out of the bullpen for one and a third innings, before giving way to Jakob Vanderhave, who made his second appearance of the series. Michael Delph closed the game on the mound for Army with one relief inning.
Â
Clemson drew first blood in the third inning on a two-out infield single. Army followed by putting runners on second and third in the following inning looking to tie or take the lead, but a pair of strikeouts left the Black Knights with no dice in the frame.Â
Â
With the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth for Clemson, Ates limited the damage to just one run, but the Tigers doubled its lead to go ahead 2-0.
Â
Carter Hewitt poked a double to left field with two outs in the seventh, but once again was unable to be driven in.Â
Â
The Tigers scored a pair of runs in the seventh and another three in the eighth to create separation down the stretch of Saturday's action.
Â
By the Numbers
Â
5: Army turned five total doubles plays across both games Saturday, to add on to its two from Friday.Â
Â
2-for-4: Parker was 2-for-4 in Game 2 Saturday.
Â
Black Knight Notes
Â
In Saturday's daycap, head coach Chris Tracz kept the lineup mostly intact from Friday's season-opener, with just the order tweaked. The nightcap however saw Josiah Overbeek make his first career start in the DH spot.
Â
In Game 1, McGlone came off the bench to catch in the seventh and caught a runner stealing for the first time since 2024.
Â
Freshman right-handed pitcher Joe Vaccarella made his career debut in Game 1.
Â
Army had its first error-free game of the year in the nightcap.
