Baseball Secures Silver Star with Win Over Air Force in South Carolina
February 21, 2026 | Baseball
Â
Coming off a historic win over SEC program South Carolina one day earlier, the Black Knights faced both a delayed start due to rain, as well as the rival Air Force Falcons on Saturday night at Founders Park.Â
Â
And under the Columbia lights, the Black Knights hit three home runs for the second consecutive game on their way to an 11-3 win over Air Force.
Â
Army improved to 2-3 overall with the win.
Â
The Black Knights have now won five of their past eight games vs. Air Force dating back to 2023, and 22 of their past 33 games against academy rivals.Â
Â
Starting pitcher Andrew Berg—making his second start of the season—pitched 6.1 innings and struck out a pair of Falcon batters while walking just one. He allowed three earned runs but earned his first win of 2026.
Â
Kevin Reavey entered in relief with one out in the seventh, and with a Falcon run already plated in the inning and another runner on base, he induced a pair of outs including a strikeout to retire the side.Â
Â
The sophomore then worked a clean eighth and ninth, and claimed Army's first save of 2026.
Â
In the top of the first inning, Jack Quinlan got Army on the board first with a two-run home run to make it 2-0 early in the Palmetto State.
Â
Berg sat the Falcons down in order in the bottom of the first and stranded a runner on third base in the bottom of the second. However, he would surrender a pair of runs in the third as Air Force tied the contest at 2-2.
Â
After Berg once again collected a perfect inning in the fourth, Army took advantage of an Air Force miscue in the fifth to re-take the lead.Â
Â
That miscue allowed Quinlan to reach base on a dropped ball by the left fielder with two outs, leading to Addison Ainsworth being hit by a pitch before Carter Hewitt recorded an RBI single to bring home Quinlan. Ainsworth then scored on the ensuing at-bat as the Falcons dipped into their bullpen for the initial time.Â
Â
Thomas Schreck hit his first home run of 2026 in the sixth inning to put Army ahead 5-2. Air Force would get a run back in the seventh to cut Army's lead to two, but the Black Knights began to pull away in the eighth with a two-out, three-run William Parker home run.Â
Â
Army put any doubt away in the ninth, with sacrifice flies from Overbeek and Schreck before a Barr RBI single put a cherry on top of the evening.Â
Â
By the Numbers
Â
3: Hewitt was 3-for-4 on the night and Barr was 3-for-6.Â
Â
.325: Army as a team hit .325 Saturday night, compared to just .194 for Air Force.
Â
.444: The Black Knights hit .444 with two outs, compared to .100 for the Falcons.
Â
.556: Army was a blistering .556 at the plate with runners in scoring position.
Â
Black Knight Notes
