April 22, 2026 | Softball
WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point softball (27-22) played its final two home games on Wednesday, taking on the Saint Peter's University Peacocks (7-35), finishing the day earning the sweep featuring 6-4 and 5-2 victories.
In game one, Army used aggressive baserunning, timely hitting, a complete game pitching performance from Amanda Eaglin and a key home run from Taylor Brown to secure a 6-4 win over Saint Peter's.
Army broke through with a big middle-inning rally and rode a dominant complete-game effort from Breanna Izzo to a 5-2 win over Saint Peter's in game two, also highlighted by a three-run home run from Breanna Coonfare.
With the two home runs today, the Black Knights made history, setting a new single-season record in home runs, with 29 total this season. The previous record was 28 home runs set by the Black Knights in the 2004 season.
Taylor Brown finished the day with a team-high four hits, including the record-tying home run. She finished batting .571 with a 1.000 slugging percentage, adding two runs and a stolen base.
Breanna Coonfare added three hits and a team-high four RBIs on the day, hitting the record-breaking home run in game two, and finished the day batting .500 with a 1.167 slug percentage, adding three runs and a stolen base. Samantha Sims added a team-best .750 batting average on the day with three hits, adding a run, RBI and stolen base.
Moving to the circle, Amanda Eaglin received the start in game one, earning the complete-game win in her final appearance at the Army Softball Complex. She finished the day with three strikeouts and now sits one strikeout from reaching 250 strikeouts in her career, becoming the eighth player in Army history to reach the mark.
Breanna Izzo made history in her start in game two, using six strikeouts to eclipse the 300 career strikeouts plateau, becoming the fourth player to reach the mark in Army history. She also only allowed two runs in her complete game victory in her final appearance at the Army Softball Complex.
GAME 1
Army set the tone early in the first inning. Brown singled and later used aggressive baserunning to steal home, giving the Black Knights a 1-0 lead.
In the circle, Eaglin matched that energy, working efficiently through the opening frames and keeping Saint Peter's off balance with a mix of weak contact and strikeouts, including a key punchout in the second inning to close a clean frame.
The offense added on in the second when Breanna Coonfare doubled and came around to score on an RBI single from Samantha Sims, extending the lead to 2-0. Eaglin continued to settle in, stranding hitters and recording another strikeout as she worked through the inning.
After Saint Peter's tied the game in the third, Brown delivered the biggest swing of the day in the bottom half, launching a solo home run to right center to put Army back on top, 3-2.
Eaglin responded in the fourth with composure, recording key outs and another strikeout to limit further damage despite traffic on the bases.
Saint Peter's briefly took a 4-3 lead, but Army answered immediately in the fourth. Coonfare drove in a run with an RBI single to tie the game, and Sienna Tepley followed with an RBI single to give Army a 5-4 advantage.
The Black Knights added an insurance run in the fifth. After a pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, Mia Bonsignore lifted a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 6-4.
From there, Eaglin took full control. She retired the side in order in the sixth and closed the game in the seventh by stranding a runner in scoring position, finishing off the complete-game effort.
GAME 2
Izzo set the tone early in the circle, striking out a batter in the first to end the first, becoming the fourth player in Army program history to reach 300 career strikeouts.
She continued to mix in strikeouts and weak contact in the opening innings, adding another punchout in the third as she kept Saint Peter's off the scoreboard.
Army created its first scoring opportunity in the third when Samantha Sims walked and advanced to third, and Taylor Brown followed with a single to put runners in scoring position. Although the Black Knights couldn't capitalize, the pressure set the stage for the breakthrough inning.
That breakthrough came in the fourth. After a walk and a single put two on, Army executed again situationally to move runners into scoring position.
Coonfare then delivered the swing of the game, launching a three-run home run to left center to give Army a 3-0 lead. With that home run, Army broke the program record for the most home runs in a single season.
The offense kept rolling in the fourth, as Sims singled and Sienna Tepley followed with a base hit. Aggressive baserunning led to another run scoring, extending the lead to 4-0.
Izzo continued to dominate in the circle, adding another strikeout in the fifth while working around a baserunner to keep Saint Peter's off balance.
Army added to its lead in the fifth with another scoring opportunity. Ashton White tripled to right field and later scored on a sacrifice fly from Caitlyn Newburn, pushing the advantage to 5-0.
Saint Peter's mounted a brief threat in the sixth, scoring two runs, but Izzo limited the damage. She bounced back with key outs and another strikeout to prevent further scoring and maintain control of the game.
In the seventh, Izzo closed the door in dominant fashion, striking out two batters to finish the complete game and secure the win.
