Baseball’s Overbeek, Schreck Win Conference Major Awards; Five Named to All-League Teams
May 06, 2026 | Baseball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point baseball's Josiah Overbeek has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Year, with Thomas Schreck joining him as Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year.
Additionally, five Black Knights have been named to the All-Patriot League First or Second Teams.
Overbeek has broken out in his plebe year as a two-way phenom for Army, leading the team in batting average (.313), OPS (1.207), home runs (15) and walks drawn (55). The Weatherford, Texas native leads the conference in each of the latter three categories, with his walks drawn total leading the nation.
On April 23, Overbeek was named a semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award. He was named both Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week on March 3 and April 27, as well as John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week on March 4.
In an April 18 doubleheader vs. Bucknell, the freshman hit his 11th homer of the season to break the program's freshman home run record. Overbeek's walk total is also highest by a plebe in Army history.
In addition to reaching base safely in each regular season game played, Overbeek leads Army with five saves and is second in pitching wins with a perfect 5-0 record.
Schreck is named Defensive Player of the Year after going into the season as the conference's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. The senior from Needville, Texas has started all but two games at shortstop in 2026.
In addition to his stellar play on the left side of the infield, Schreck is second on the team in batting average with a .286 clip and has hit three home runs on the year.
Schreck and Overbeek were each named to the First Team All-Patriot League team, as an infielder and in the at-large spot, respectively. Joining the pair as a first-teamer was infielder Chris Barr. The senior from Sarasota, Fla. is third on the team with a .281 batting average and has three home runs on the season, including two in Army's win over SEC foe South Carolina on February 20.
Barr was named Patriot League Player of the Week on February 23, and on April 14 vs. Wagner, he hit for the cycle while going 5-for-5 and collecting the first cycle by an Army player since 2008.
Starting pitcher Andrew Berg and outfielder William Parker each received Second Team All-Patriot League nods.
Berg started in each weekend series for Army this season, for a total of 12 starts on the mound. The rightly has collected two complete games this year, and is the Black Knights' leader in both ERA (3.94) and innings pitched (75.1). He is one of just 19 pitchers to date nationally who have recorded a start in each week.
Meanwhile, Parker is second among Black Knights with both an .852 OPS and seven home runs in 2026.
Overall, Army was the only Patriot League team to have multiple major award winners. The Black Knights clinched the No. 1 seed for the Patriot League Baseball Championships and Co-Regular Season Championship with a 28-18 overall record and 17-9 mark in conference play, defeating rival Navy in Annapolis for the final series of the regular season.
