- Title:
- Assistant Baseball Coach
Dylan Hoy completed his first season at Army as assistant coach in 2026.
Â
In 2026, Army went 28-20 overall and 17-9 in conference regular season games, winning the Patriot League Regular Season Co-Championship. The Black Knights defeated Navy in both the baseball star series as well as in the final regular season series of the year. That—combined with an 11-3 win over Air Force on February 21—gave Army a 5-2 record against academy rivals in 2026.
Â
On February 20, the Black Knights won their first game over a power conference opponent since 2022 and just their second SEC game in program history with a 9-5 win at South Carolina. Chris Barr homered twice for Army, and Josiah Overbeek provided both a home run at the plate and four outs on the mound to finish the game. The matchup was part of South Carolina’s Salute the Troops Weekend, which also featured Army’s win over Air Force the next day at Founders Park in Columbia, S.C.
Â
In 2026, five Black Knights were named to the Patriot League All-League teams. INF Chris Barr, INF Thomas Schreck and RHP/OF/DH Josiah Overbeek were named to the First Team, with OF William Parker and RHP Andrew Berg being named Second Team honorees. Schreck was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, with Overbeek being named Patriot League Rookie of the Year. Schreck also earned a spot on the All-Academic Patriot League team.
Â
Overbeek broke out as a two-way star during his freshman year in 2026, being named a semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award. The freshman from Weatherford, Texas reached base in all 46 games played as a plebe. He tied Ross Friedrick’s single-season record of 17 home runs in Army’s playoff game vs. Holy Cross on May 10, and finished the season tied for the Division I lead in walks drawn with 56.Â
Â
Overbeek’s .514 OPS and .712 SLG each led the Patriot League. He also led Army in saves with five in 2026 and recorded a perfect 5-0 record on the mound over 15 pitching appearances.
Â
Army’s .981 fielding percentage led the conference in 2026, was the best fielding percentage of any team in program history and was 15th-best nationally as of the end of Army’s season. The Black Knights played error-free baseball in 24 of 48 games in 2026.
Â
Hoy came to West Point from Louisville, where he spent the 2025 season with the Cardinals’ College World Series team as a graduate assistant.
Â
Hoy worked at Louisville under Cardinals head coach Dan McDonnell and was part of a staff that led the ACC program to a 42-24 overall record and College World Series appearance, posting a 2-2 record in Omaha with wins over Arizona and Oregon State. Â
Â
In his year at Louisville, Hoy assisted in implementing offensive strategies and worked directly with hitters. He also assisted closely in baserunning and saw the team steal a program-high 162 bases across the season.Â
Additionally, Hoy provided defensive coaching with a focus on infielder technique and consistency, while developing scouting reports and game plans by analyzing opposing teams.
Â
In the 2025 postseason, the Cardinals upset No. 1-overall national seed Vanderbilt in their second Nashville Regional contest, before defeating Wright State in the regional final. One week later, Louisville returned home and knocked off Miami in the Louisville Super Regional, with a 3-2 win in the decisive Game 3 of the series to secure its spot in Omaha.Â
Â
Hoy pivoted to coaching directly after finishing his playing career at Louisville, where he competed in 2024 as a graduate transfer. He served as team captain and played in 43 games, starting in 42 at second base, third base and shortstop. He finished the year batting .317 with five home runs and 30 RBIs.
Â
Before transferring to Louisville, Hoy played four seasons at Marist, three of which under Tracz before the head coach took the same role at Army. In 2023, the infielder was named to the All-MAAC Preseason Team and the MAAC All-Academic Team. At Marist in 2024, Hoy tallied a .245 batting average, .381 on base percentage, four home runs and 19 RBIs.Â
Â
Hoy won Marist’s James E. Pizzani Award, presented to a male and female who has contributed to the athletic department, both academically and socially, displaying community service and leadership, and has performed above and beyond all expectations.
Â
Hoy is from Suffern, N.Y., where he attended Suffern High School. He currently lives in Monroe.
