Home Runs Prove Pivotal for Baseball in Loss at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Army West Point Baseball suffered a 14-3 setback at Fairfield, allowing five home runs in Connecticut Saturday afternoon.
After surrendering a pair of two-out, two-run homers in the third inning, Army worked its way back into the game with three runs in the fourth. William Parker singled to score Braden Golinski, Ethan Ellis brought home Coleson Titus, and Carter Hewitt drove in Parker on a squeeze bunt.
However, the Stags re-created separation a frame later with a grand slam, and followed with a solo home run to make it 9-3.
Fairfield connected for a second grand slam in the fifth, before adding another run in the sixth on a passed ball.
By the Numbers
2: Titus drew two walks Saturday.
3: Starting pitcher Matthew Ronnebaum had three strikeouts over 3.2 innings.
4: Sean Dennehy, Mark Abell, Luke Marino and Jakob Vanderhave all pitched in relief.
Black Knight Notes
Parker upped his on-base streak to 16, with Braden Golinski and Ellis each following at 14.
The freshman Vanderhave made his season debut on the hill.

The Black Knights are back Sunday to conclude the weekend, with an 11:30 a.m. first pitch set at Fordham.
Army returns home Wednesday against Siena.
