Baseball Set for Four Games this Weekend Against Fordham and Fairfield

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Baseball will participate in a double round-robin this weekend; the final weekend before the start of Patriot League play.
Army, Fairfield and Fordham will play each other twice this weekend, with each team playing four times over the course of the weekend. The Black Knights will host both teams Friday at Doubleday Field, facing Fordham at 12:00 p.m. and Fairfield no earlier than 3:30 p.m.
Fairfield will host Saturday, with the Army facing the Stags at 2:00 p.m. in Connecticut. The Black Knights close the weekend with an 11:30 a.m. game Sunday at Fordham.
Friday's home games will be streamed on ESPN+.
Notes and Storylines
» The Black Knights knocked off UAlbany 9-4 on Wednesday to win its Doubleday Field opener. It was Army's third consecutive home opener victory, as the squad rode nine unanswered runs after going behind 3-0 early.
In just his second career appearance, freshman RHP Robbie Penswick delivered four masterful frames, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out five. Trey Ates followed Penswick with two scoreless innings. Combined, the Army pitchers' 11 strikeouts were a team-high.
» In Sunday's doubleheader sweep at Georgia State, Justin Lehman was 0-for-1 in each game, but totaled seven walks Sunday (Three in Game 1; Four in Game 2). He crossed the plate twice in each matchup. Additionally, he was the starting and winning pitcher in Game 2.
In Wednesday's win over UAlbany, Lehman proved he could also get on base with power, hitting an RBI triple in the sixth inning.
» Army displayed offensive prowess in its four-game series last weekend at Georgia State, slugging .500 as a team and combining for a .930 OPS. Sam Ruta was .429 across the four-game set in Atlanta, with three home runs and a 1.214 SLG. William Parker, Derek Berg and Coleson Titus each joined Ruta in hitting north of .300 over the four-game stretch. The Black Knights also drew 27 walks during the weekend.

Behind Enemy Lines
» Army will look to avenge a 9-7 loss to Fordham from Feb. 23 in DeLand, Fla. The Rams are coming off two consecutive wins heading into the weekend. After winning last weekend's series finale at William & Mary, Fordham knocked off Wagner 10-1 in the Bronx Wednesday.
Senior outfielder Ryan Thiesse leads the Rams with a .354 AVG with fifth-year outfielder Andrew Kanellis following with a .326 AVG and a team-high three home runs. Against Army in February, Thiesse was 4-for-5 with a stolen base in the leadoff spot.
» Fairfield meanwhile comes into the weekend at 3-11 this season. However, the Stags carry momentum, taking two of three games at Florida Gulf Coast last weekend. Three Stags currently hit north of .300, led by fifth-year catcher Ethan Hibbard with a .471 AVG and four home runs.
Next Up
Army returns home next week to face Siena on Wednesday. Road doubleheaders then follow at rival Navy next Saturday and at Bucknell next Sunday.
