Baseball Falls in Rain at Doubleday

Under a cold, steady rain, the Black Knights fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first. Sam Ruta got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, before the Saints made it 6-1 in the second.
William Parker rode the Hudson Valley gusts for a solo home run in the second, and Army took its only lead of the contest an inning later. Thomas Schreck walked with the bases loaded, Max McGlone drove in a run on a single and Ethan Ellis cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to make it 7-6 Black Knights.
However, the lead was short lived, with Siena plating two in the fourth. An eight-run sixth for the Saints punctuated a forgettable afternoon for Army, before allowing an additional run in the seventh of what would be a margin-shortened matchup.
By the Numbers
3-for-3: Ellis was 3-for-3 Wednesday.
9: Ruta's homer was his team-leading ninth of the season, while going 2-for-3 on the afternoon.
Black Knight Notes
Parker extended his on-base streak to 18 games, with Golinski following by reaching base for his 16th game in a row.
McGlone made his first career start at catcher Wednesday, a game after making his debut as a defensive replacement late Sunday at Fordham.
Plebe RHP John Oxios made his career debut Wednesday.
Jared Cohen made his season debut as a replacement third baseman.
A brief, 11-minute rain delay was called in the middle of the sixth inning as a medium-heavy weather cell moved over West Point.
Next Up
The Black Knights begin Patriot League this weekend at arch rival Navy, with a doubleheader against the Midshipmen on Saturday. Game 1 in Annapolis is currently slated for 12:00 p.m., with CBS Sports Network to broadcast. Game 2 will follow on ESPN+.
Army will follow on Sunday with a doubleheader at Bucknell, and will return home next Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. to face Monmouth.
