April 09, 2024 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – On a warm and sunny afternoon turned evening at Doubleday Field, Army West Point Baseball took an effective team pitching performance and dispatched the Stony Brook Seawolves 4-1 Tuesday.
Bryce Brownlee set the table with his 4.2 inning, zero-run and two-strikeout start, giving way to eventual winner Joel Rubin in the fifth.
Joe Valchar gave 1.1 innings in relief, allowing one run and striking out three, before Andrew Berg recorded a seven-out save.
Twice, Stony Brook stranded the bases loaded. A Valchar strikeout in the sixth induced a scoreless inning, before Berg inherited baserunners in the seventh and limited the damage to a single run.
Army scored in the first inning, with a William Parker RBI single. Coleson Titus continued the two-out rally two at-bats later with another one-run single.
With two outs in the fourth, Derek Berg doubled to left center to drive in two runs and double the Black Knight lead to 4-0.
