Hockey Splits Series With Holy Cross, Drops Saturday Game 5-1 to Crusaders
October 25, 2025 | Hockey
WEST POINT, N.Y. – In a reversal of the previous night's result, Army West Point hockey (3-2-1, 1-2-0 Atlantic Hockey America) fell 5-1 to the Holy Cross Crusaders (2-5-0, 2-1-0 Atlantic Hockey America) in the second game of the series Saturday afternoon at Tate Rink.
The Black Knights put JJ Cataldo in goal to begin the game and after 36 minutes of action and 13 saves made, fellow sophomore goaltender Jacob Biron took to the ice to deliver nine saves and hold off any further scoring from the Crusaders.
Holy Cross placed Connor MacKenzie in goal against the Black Knights where he posted 21 saves against Army's 22 shots.
The Crusaders exploded from the first whistle, scoring two goals in the first three minutes of action to lay claim to the game's momentum from the jump.
Holy Cross dominated control of the puck throughout the first frame and expanded their lead to a 5-0 gap with a trio of goals in the second period.
Army made its way onto the scoreboard late in the second period as Jude Brower capitalized on a power-play opportunity for the Black Knights with a shot that wound its way through traffic and into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Despite a tumultuous third period that saw a bevy of penalties dished out to both teams, both Biron and MacKenzie stood tall in goal to hold the score at a 5-1 mark in the Crusaders' favor through the final whistle.
The split series result marks the fourth split regular season series between Army and Holy Cross in the last four seasons.
