Men's Basketball Journeys Upstate to Take on Cornell Big Red

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point men's basketball (1-3) heads to upstate New York for its fifth game of the season on Tuesday, taking on the Cornell University Big Red (1-2).
Army and Cornell last faced off on Dec. 8, 2024, inside Christl Arena, with the Big Red earning a 103-84 win over the Black Knights.
The game inside Newman Arena will tip off at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
ARMY STORYLINES:
WHAT HAPPENED LAST GAME: Army West Point saw its third-straight loss on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Harvard University Crimson 52-75. Despite the loss, the Black Knights still hold a 16-10 series lead over the Crimson. Harvard extends its winning streak in the series to two straight wins. Army's last win over Harvard came on Nov. 23, 2009, with a 56-53 win over Harvard inside Christl Arena. Ryan Curry and Jaxson Bell led the scoring for the Black Knights on Saturday, with the duo each adding 11 points.
THE SIXTH MAN: Freshman guard Jackson Furman made an immediate impact for the Black Knights, leading the Black Knights' scoring with 14.5 points a game in 16.5 minutes a game. The plebe earned a career-high and game-high 20 points against Duke, shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and 55.5 percent from the three-point line. Furman earned 17 points in his first collegiate game, the most a freshman has scored in his debut in 11 seasons and the second most since 2000.
THE BOOGEYMAN: Sophomore forward Jacen Holloway balances Army sophomore core, also averaging 10.2 points a game. He finished Army's second game against St. Thomas with a team-high and career-high 16 points and tied his personal and season best in made field goals (5) and assists (2). The sophomore also set career-highs in free throws made (5) and minutes (29). Holloway also earned a career and team-high five rebounds against Duke.
CHEF (RYAN) CURRY: Curry returns for his third season with the Black Knights, currently averaging 9.3 points a game. The junior finished Saturday with a team-high and season-high 11 points against Harvard, adding four rebounds and three assists. In his first game back, the junior finished with 10 points and added a team-high seven assists plus six rebounds against St. Thomas.
JORNADO WARNING: Jorn Everson played a key role off Army's bench last season and now serves as a primary member of Army's starting lineup and currently averages 9.2 points a game. The senior had a strong showing against St. Thomas, finishing with a team-high and season-best 16 points, while adding a career-high seven rebounds in 35 minutes of play, also a career-best. He also had season-bests in field goals made (7), three-pointers made (2) and assists (3).
TATE ON THE BOARD: Junior forward Tate Laczkowski, the tallest player on Army's roster, serves as the biggest rebounding threat for Army. Laczkowski leads Army, averaging 5.5 rebounds a game, earning nine rebounds in his first career start against Maritime and eight rebounds against St. Thomas. The junior earned a season-high six points in Army's loss to Harvard. In Army's first two games, he added four points and one block against Maritime and five points in a career-high 31 minutes against St. Thomas.
THE WALLET: A role player off Army's bench last season, Kevin McCarthy plays a key role, averaging 8.8 points a game. In Army's game against Maritime, the sophomore sharpshooter scored a career-high 18 points and also added career-highs in field goals made (7), three-pointers made (4), steals (3), and minutes (28). He also tied his career-high in three-pointers made against St. Thomas last Saturday. He earned a career-high four assists against Duke.
FOR THE YOUNG GUNS: The Black Knights' roster will look different this season after graduating an eight-person senior class. Now on the 18-man roster, there are five upperclassmen and 13 underclassmen, with nine sophomores and four freshmen. The new freshmen joining Army include Jackson Furman, Dillon Watt, Dylan Benner and Jahaan Green. Before joining the Academy, Furman, Benner and Green each played a year at the United States Military Academy Preparatory School (USMAPS).
HELD IN HIGH REGARD: Team captain, Jackson Mayo, was named USMA's Deputy Brigade Commander, the second-highest-ranked position in the Corps of Cadets, over the summer. The senior started the season scoring six points with two made three-pointers in Army's season-opener win against Maritime.

Scouting the Big Red
- Cornell is 1-2 to start the 2025-26 season, falling on the road to Kent State and Illinois State before defeating one of Army's conference opponents, Lafayette, 97-78 on Nov. 13.
- Head coach Jon Jaques, who graduated from Cornell in 2010, is in his second season at the helm in Ithaca. He holds a 19-13 record through his first two seasons.
- Cooper Noard leads the Big Red, averaging 26.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He is also shooting 90.9 percent from the line and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc. He also plays 30 minutes a game, which leads the team.
- Adam Hinton leads the team, shooting a perfect 13-13 from the line. He is also a double-digit scorer, averaging 18.7 points per game while shooting 56.3 percent from beyond the arc.
- Other notable players include Jacob Beccles, who leads the team with 11 assists, and Josh Baldwin who leads the team with three blocks and is second in rebounds, averaging 4.7 a game.
