Baseball Drops Midweek Decision to Fairfield
March 26, 2025 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Baseball was looking to extend its unbeaten record in midweek contests this year, but was unable to collect its third Wednesday win of the year, falling 8-3 to the Fairfield Stags at Doubleday Field.
Justin Lehman hit a solo home run to open the scoring for Army, and Michael Delph recorded a strikeout in his two-inning, no-run career debut on the mound.
However, the visitors would tag Army for four runs in the third, and would not trail the rest of the afternoon.
After Fairfield made it 5-2 in the top of the seventh, the Black Knights responded in the bottom half of the inning, on a Coleson Titus RBI double and an error off the bat of Thomas Schreck.
However, the Stags would plate two runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to pull away down the stretch.
The Black Knight bullpen combined for seven innings Wednesday afternoon. Harrison Kliethermes was given the decision in direct relief of Delph. Kaden Youmans pitched three frames, surrendering just one run. Walker Calvo (2.0 IP), Mark Abell (1.0) IP and Ian Standlee (1.0) also made bullpen appearances.
By the Numbers
2-for-3: Lehman was 2-for-3 with his first home run of the season.
3: Abell recorded three strikeouts across his one inning pitched.
Black Knight Notes
Delph's start served as his career pitching debut, but the plebe had previously started in six games at first base.
Kliethermes and Standlee also made their career debuts out of the bullpen.
Paul Andrzejewski returned to the starting lineup for the first time since the UAlbany game March 12, at second base.
Army played error-free baseball for the fourth game in a row, and the seventh time in 2025.
