Men’s Basketball’s Win Streak Snapped in Road Battle at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. — Army West Point men's basketball (10-14, 4-7) traveled upstate to Cotterell Court to take on the Colgate University Raiders (14-10, 8-3), ultimately falling to the home team, 55-69.
With the loss, the Black Knights' two-game winning streak was snapped. The Raiders also swept the season series against the Black Knights, forcing Army to a 69-76 loss inside Christl Arena on Jan. 3. The last win against the Raiders for Army came last season, in an 84-72 victory inside Christl Arena. The Raiders have won 13 of the last 14 matchups.
Despite the loss, Jaxson Bell finished the game not only leading Army, but leading all players with scoring. The sophomore finished with 18 points off the bench, while adding four rebounds, three assists and a career-high four steals.
Freshman forward Dylan Benner also had a career game in limited action, scoring eight points, hitting two three-pointers and adding two rebounds in only 11 minutes of action. Ultimately, Army's bench fueled Army's scoring, earning 43 of the team's 55 total points.
How It Happened
The Black Knights grew an early lead in the first three minutes, scoring eight points to get a 8-4 lead with 16:48 on the clock in the first half.
Ryan Curry scored the first bucket with a deep three-pointer. Kevin McCarthy then added a three-pointer of his own off an assist from Tate Laczkowski. Jorn Everson then chipped in a dunk off an inbounds play, ultimately giving Ryan Curry an assist.
Colgate responded with a 7-0 run over 90 seconds, then. Army went on a 7-0 run of their own to keep the lead at 15-11 with 12:07 left in the first half.
Jacen Holloway started Army's 7-0 run with a three-pointer through an assist from Jaxson Bell. Holloway added another point from the free-throw line, and Jaxson Bell added another shot from deep.
Over the next three minutes, the two teams went back and forth, with Army scoring seven points in the stretch to keep a small lead at 22-19 with 7:09 left in the first half.
Jaxson Bell continued to play well, hitting shots in back-to-back possessions to add four points. Then Dylan Benner added his first three-pointer of the day off a pass from fellow freshman Jackson Furman.
Army would add six more points over the next two minutes, maintaining their lead at 28-24 with 3:25 left in the first half. Jaxson Bell drove the ball in the paint for another two points, Jorn Everson hit a hook shot in the paint, and then Kevin McCarthy hit a driving layup off an assist from Jorn Everson.
Then, Colgate took over in the final three minutes of the half, going on a 14-0 run to force Army into a 28-38 deficit heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Raiders extended their run into the second half, opening the first four minutes on an 8-0 run to expand the Black Knights' deficit to 28-46. Over the last three minutes of the first half and first four minutes of the second half, Colgate went on an extended 22-0 run.
Jaxson Bell finally snapped Army's scoring drought with a pair of made free throws, then Jacen Holloway hit Army's first field goal with 15:09 left on the clock, cutting Army's eight and a half minute scoring drought, which spanned over the two halves.
The Black continued to find their rhythm with the help of their bench players. Over the next four and a half minutes, Jaxson Bell added two more free throws and a jumper, then Joshua Eli added a shot from behind the arc to make it a 39-53 game with 10:39 left on the clock.
The Raiders added to their lead over the next four minutes, outscoring Army 11-5 to make it a 64-44 game with 6:23 left to play. Jaxson Bell hit one last three-pointer to reach 18 points, both a team-high and game-high. Jacen Holloway and Dillon Watt each added a made free throw as well during the stretch.
In the final five minutes of the game, the Black Knights played tough and outpaced Colgate, going on their own 11-5 run to end the game.
Dylan Benner started the scoring with two made free throws. Thirty seconds later, Dillon Watt added two more points at the charity stripe. Watt added one more from the stripe. Brendon O'Keefe came off the bench and hit a three-pointer, then Dylan Benner hit his second three-pointer of the night to bring the game to the final score of 55-69.

- Jaxson Bell led Army and all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting, added four rebounds, three assists and a career-high four steals in 27 minutes off the bench.
- Dylan Benner scored a career-high eight points while shooting 2-of-5 from three-point range, and he added two rebounds in 11 minutes.
- Jacen Holloway finished with seven points on 2-of-3 shooting, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out one assist in a team-high 28 minutes.
- Kevin McCarthy contributed five points on 2-of-4 shooting and one three-pointer in 16 minutes as a starter.
- Jorn Everson added four points, two assists and one rebound in 14 minutes.
- Dillon Watt added four points, two assists, and one steal in 18 minutes.
- Ryan Curry, Joshua Eli and Brendon O'Keefe each finished with three points.
- Tate Laczkowski, Jackson Furman, Alex Engro, and Jackson Mayo combined for six rebounds, four assists, and one block.
- Army's bench finished the game accounting for 43 of the team's 55 total points.
- Colgate shot 46.3 percent from the field compared to Army's 32.7 percent. Army made more three-pointers than Colgate (9–5), but Colgate shot a similar percentage from three-point range (29.4 percent vs. 31.0 percent).
- Colgate committed 14 turnovers, while Army committed 13, but Colgate converted those turnovers into 18 points compared to Army's 13.
Up Next
The Black Knights will return home to Christl Arena to take on the Lafayette College Leopards for the first time in the 2025-26 season on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 12 p.m. ET.
Last season, the two teams split the season series with each other. First, Army earned a 70-68 win against the Leopards inside Christl Arena, winning on a shot at the buzzer from then senior guard, Jalen Rucker. On the road in Easton, Pa., Army fell to the Leopards 65-81.
It will also be Senior Day at West Point on Saturday, where Army men's basketball will celebrate its three seniors, guard and team captain Jackson Mayo, Chanse Perkins and Jorn Everson.
