Baseball Drops Saturday Game to Navy; Star to be Decided Sunday
March 28, 2026 | Baseball
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point baseball's series with the Navy Midshipmen will come down to a Sunday rubber matchup, after dropping Saturday's second game of the series, 5-2.
Â
The series now stands tied at one game each after Army's Friday win. The winner of Sunday's game will win the baseball star and sing its alma mater second after the final out.Â
Â
Army (13-11, 5-3) fought back from an early deficit in the seventh inning and had the go-ahead run on base. However, two outs in succession ended the inning with the bases loaded, with the Mids still holding into a two-run lead.
Â
That Navy lead held from the moment they took it in the top of the fourth, with a two-out, bases-loaded single to make it 3-0.
Â
A solo home run in the seventh made it a four-run game, but Army made a dent into that deficit in the home half. David Dubrule crossed the plate from third on a throwing error from the Navy pitcher on a pickoff attempt to second. Then, a trio of walks drawn by Chris Barr, Josiah Overbeek and William Parker would load the bases before the latter of the three free bases brought in a run to make it 4-2.
Â
One frame later, Anthony Ramirez—who provided three innings out of the bullpen—retired the Mids in order in the eighth to keep Army's momentum alive. The Black Knights would get the tying run to the plate the bottom of that inning, but failed to make a further dent into Navy's lead, with would soon stretch to three runs with a solo home run in the ninth.
Â
Kevin Reavey took the decision for Army, striking out five over six frames. He did not allow an earned run Saturday.
Â
The loss snaps the Black Knights' six-game winning streak and three-game winning streak in games vs. Navy.Â
