Men's Basketball Sees Historic Night Hosting Duke, Mike Krzyzewski ('69) Inside Christl Arena

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point men's basketball (1-2) welcomed the No. 4 team in the nation, the Duke University Blue Devils (3-0) and Mike Krzyzewski ('69) into Christl Arena on Tuesday, ultimately falling to the Blue Devils, 59-114.
The game went on to set the attendance record for the most fans inside Christl Arena in program history. The final attendance was 5,326 on Veterans Day, beating the previous of 5,291 set on Jan. 21, 2017, when Army played Navy that season.
The matchup also marked just the third time in program history—and the first time in 28 years—that the Black Knights have hosted a Power Five opponent at West Point. The first came against LSU on Dec. 21, 1978. The second was against Duke on Nov. 16, 1997.
Mike Krzyzewski ('69) also made his return to his alma mater on Tuesday, where a banner was revealed, honoring him as the winningest head coach in NCAA Division I history. His coaching career began at Army in 1975, 50 years ago, and he posted a 70-32 record over five seasons in West Point.
Alongside the ceremony, Coach K addressed the record-breaking crowd. His statement can be read HERE.
Moving back to the action on the court, Jackson Furman led the way for the Black Knights, who ultimately struggled offensively. The freshman finished the night with a game-high, as well as a career-high of 20 points, shooting 53.8 percent from the floor and 55.5 percent from the three-point line. He also added three rebounds.
How It Happened
Army opened the game with good energy as Jacen Holloway scored the first basket on a layup assisted by Kevin McCarthy.
Duke quickly answered with a three-pointer from Isaiah Evans, but Army responded when McCarthy knocked down a three of his own to tie the game at 5–5. Shortly after, Ryan Curry hit a deep three to even the score again at 8–8, showing early confidence from the perimeter.
As the half progressed, Duke began to find its rhythm and gain momentum. Army struggled to convert from beyond the arc, missing several attempts. Despite the cold stretch, Army continued to battle on the boards, with Jorn Everson and Kevin McCarthy each pulling down offensive rebounds to create second-chance opportunities.
Midway through the half, Ryan Curry and Alex Engro provided a spark with a steal and a transition layup to cut into Duke's lead. Holloway added another layup off a nice pass from McCarthy, but Duke's frontcourt began to extend its lead into double digits.
As the pace quickened, Army relied on Jackson Furman to steady the offense. Furman hit a three-pointer from the wing and later finished off a four-point play, giving Army a brief offensive lift. Tate Laczkowski also created a turnover that led to a scoring opportunity, showing Army's hustle on defense.
Late in the half, Duke continued to apply pressure, forcing turnovers and capitalizing on fast breaks. Holloway managed to connect on another layup, while Furman scored again in transition to bring Army within striking distance. At halftime, Army trailed Duke 49–30.
Army continued to battle through the second half, showing resilience and energy despite falling behind early. Jackson Furman led the offense, scoring both from beyond the arc and at the rim, including a three-pointer and later a layup, helping the Black Knights stay competitive on the scoreboard.
Dillon Watt contributed at the free-throw line, converting a pair of early free throws, while Joshua Eli displayed hustle on the offensive glass, tipping in a score and securing rebounds to maintain Army's scoring efforts.
A key moment for Army came from Jorn Everson, who knocked down back-to-back three-pointers, energizing the team and bringing the score closer, giving Army a spark offensively and showing the depth of the bench.
Alex Engro also provided energy, grabbing defensive rebounds and creating second-chance opportunities, while Tate Laczkowski added a three-pointer and a layup later in the half.
Army's defense continued to fight, forcing turnovers and contesting shots, with Ryan Curry and Kevin McCarthy making key defensive plays. Shortly after, Joshua Eli energized the team with an offensive rebound and tip-in, one of several strong hustle plays on the glass.
In the later minutes, Brendon O'Keefe connected from beyond the arc, and Alex Engro added solid minutes with defensive rebounds and a few good looks from deep, but ultimately, Duke came away with the win.
