Baseball Dispatches Maine in Eight Innings
March 19, 2025 | Baseball
A Mark Abell bases-loaded walk and an Addison Ainsworth RBI single plated the Black Knights' eighth inning runs and sent the fans home before the daily 5:00 p.m. retreat could alert fans near The Plain.
Walker Calvo secured his first career win, following starting pitcher Kevin Reavey, with the pair each pitching a trio of innings.
John Calloway made his career debut on the mound in the seventh inning before Joe Valchar and Trey Ates closed the contest.
John McKillop scored William Parker in the first inning to put Army on the scoreboard first. Ainsworth then tripled the early lead an inning later with a two-out double to bring home Chris Barr and Mark Abell.
Maine crept back into the game with a two-run home run in the third, but Army responded by tacking on five runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 8-3. After Coleson Titus was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Thomas Schreck logged an RBI groundout, Abell tripled to center field to score two baserunners and Barr poked a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Black Knights added another run in the fifth, when Barr beat out a double play to extend the inning, allowing Schreck to score.
An inning later, Farrell and Abell recorded RBI singles and Schreck had a sacrifice fly to give Army a 12-2 lead.
Maine extended the game in the seventh with a pair of two out runs, but could not survive into the ninth inning Wednesday.
