Baseball Hosts Concludes Homestand vs. Lafayette

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point plays its final Patriot League home series this weekend, taking on the Lafayette Leopards for a three-game set.

Saturday's doubleheader Game 1 is set for 12:00 p.m. at Doubleday Field, with the series finale to follow Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Each Game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Notes and Storylines

» The Black Knights look to secure the season series vs. the Leopards after sweeping a doubleheader in Easton March 22. In both games, William Parker hit go-ahead home runs in the late innings as Army came from behind in both instances.

» Last weekend, Army took two of three games from Lehigh April 13-14, including a doubleheader sweep vs. the Mountain Hawks April 13. That, combined with a doubleheader split at Lehigh March 23, gives the Black Knights a 3-2 season series win.

The Black Knights had 24 total hits in their 11-0 and 10-5 wins this weekend vs. Lehigh, scoring a combined 13 second inning runs across both games. Army's pitchers also combined for 19 strikeouts across the doubleheader.

» Army currently sits in third place in the Patriot League standings. The Black Knights sit a game and a half behind second place Holy Cross and two games behind Navy, with both opponents holding the tiebreaker over the Black Knights.

The Black Knights are one game up on fourth place Lafayette and two and a half games up on Lehigh, with the tiebreaker over Lehigh. Army needs just one win over Lafayette and one win over Bucknell to secure the tiebreaker over each respective team.

» Monday's game vs. Lehigh ended a run of 14 consecutive Patriot League games that have been part of doubleheaders. The Black Knights were 9-5 across this stretch. After Saturday's game, Army will have played 16 of its last 18 conference games as part of twin bills.

» Justin Lehman—listed this week on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List—can do more than just pitch and hit, he can also make plays defensively. He showed that May 14 vs. Lehigh, making a catch over the visiting dugout railing for an out, with his arm extended around a Lehigh player in the dugout to make the play. The catch was #1 on Tuesday's SportsCenter Top 10.

» William Parker recovered from offseason Tommy John Surgery in time to make his season debut at Fordham March 7. After starting 25 games exclusively as the DH, the junior made his left field debut Wednesday vs. Holy Cross, his primary defensive position in 2024.

Army embarks on a four-game road trip, beginning Wednesday at UConn for a 5:05 p.m. first pitch. The Black Knights return to Patriot League play at Bucknell April 25-27 before next playing at home vs. LIU April 30.
