Baseball Pulls Away Late, Bounces Back at Lehigh
April 10, 2026 | Baseball
Â
Freshman Josiah Overbeek homered twice Friday for Army (16-14, 7-6), both in the ninth inning, with the second being a grand slam.Â
Â
Overbeek—who entered the day first in the country in walks per game—also reclaimed the Patriot League home run lead, after seeing the Mountain Hawks' Owen Walewander briefly surpass him during the game.
Â
Buried by the lede, Andrew Berg tossed an impressive 6.2 innings on the mound with three strikeouts to earn the win, while walking none. Walker Calvo (1.1 innings) and Jakob Vanderhave (one inning) closed the game with a combined seven outs and no runs allowed.Â
Â
Lehigh got on the board first in the bottom of the first, but the Black Knights took the lead in the second and didn't look back. After a Carter Hewitt RBI double and Mason Scott single to score Hewitt, Army continued to punch with bases loaded walks from Hewitt and Paul Andrzejewski in the third before Scott singled through the left side to bring in two runs and make it 6-1.
Â
In the fifth, Zac Farrell roped a two-run double to left-center field, making it 8-1. However, Lehigh would mound a response in the seventh with four runs to cut Army's lead to 8-5.
Â
From there though it was all Army, with Quinlan walking with the bases loaded, Hewitt getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Andrzejewski driving in a pair with an opposite field double, all in the eighth.Â
Â
Army finished the afternoon with a whopping eight runs in the ninth, bookended by Overbeek's homers. Quinlan, Hewitt and Scott also logged RBIs in the frame.
Â

Â
Andrzejewski made his first start of the season at second base on Friday, after making 22 starts a season ago.

Overbeek hit leadoff for the first time in his career. It also marked the first time Army placed a designated hitter in the leadoff spot since Coleson Titus vs. Siena on March 20, 2024. Overbeek reached base for the 28th consecutive game Friday, each game the plebe has played in this year. His grand slam in the ninth was his and the team's second this year.
