Baseball Heads to Lehigh for Weekend Series

BETHLEHAM, Pa. – Army West Point Baseball is set for a three-game series this Saturday and Sunday at the Lehigh Mountain Hawks.

The sides will face off in a doubleheader Saturday, with a 12:00 p.m. Game 1 first pitch from Legacy Park. The series finale is slated for 1:00 p.m.

Per Patriot League protocols, Game 1 of the first game Saturday is set for seven innings. Should the contest go into extra innings and last nine innings or longer, Game 2 will revert from nine innings to seven.

Notes and Storylines

» Army secured a doubleheader split last Sunday at Navy, taking Game 2 8-1 behind 6.1 innings pitched from Justin Lehman. The RHP also recorded an RBI in the eighth inning as a replacement first baseman.

» The Black Knights secured a season series sweep last year against Navy, defeating the Midshipman twice at West Point (April 3) and three times in Annapolis (April 22-23) to secure the Star. Dating back to 2022, Army has won 10 of its past 12 over Navy and 13 of its past 16 against service academy rivals.

» In Sunday's doubleheader Game 2 win at Navy, Justin Lehman proved he could do it on the mound and in the batter's box, earning the win with 6.1 innings pitched, three strikeouts and just one run allowed. He then moved to first base for the remainder of the matchup and drove in a run in the eighth inning.

» Army swept Bucknell in a doubleheader Monday in Lewisburg, scoring a combined 30 runs on its way to 9-1 and 21-5 seven-inning wins. Army's 21 runs in a game are the most since scoring 21 in last season's Patriot League title-clinching win over Bucknell on May 22. The Black Knights had team single-game season-highs in runs, hits (17) and RBI (16).

» In Game 1 at Bucknell Monday, starting pitcher Andrew Berg tossed 6.1 innings and earned the win, with his brother Derek catching.

» Game 2 saw William Parker drive in eight runs, tying a program single-game RBI record, matching a total set by Anthony Giachin vs. Air Force on Feb. 15, 2019. Parker had the team's first grand slam since Andre Walden in 2019 in the first inning.

» Parker was named Patriot League Player of the Week for his performance at the plate last weekend, while Lehman took Pitcher of the Week Accolades.

Behind Enemy Lines

» Lehigh sits at 15-8-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play. After a four-game series split with Lafayette last weekend, the Mountain Hawks dispatched Delaware State on Tuesday by run-rule.

» Two Mountain Hawks are hitting above .300 and possess an OPS north of 1.000. Junior Rafe Perich leads in both categories, with a .413 AVG and an OPS of 1.200, while hitting six home runs. Fellow junior Justin Butler follows, hitting .337 with an 1.104 OPS and a team-high nine homers.

» On the mound, Lehigh's top two pitchers by innings pitched (Teddy Tolliver, 29.2 IP; Marcus Danchision, 26.1 IP) each boast ERAs below 5.00.

Army will travel to Siena Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. contest in Loudonville, N.Y. A four-game series awaits the Black Knights next weekend against Holy Cross, beginning Friday.
